Presidents Status Report
Vol 1 Issue 12 - December 24 2009
Dear members
By now most if not all of you will have heard of the untimely death of our founder Tom Joordens. The key point of this quick newsletter is to bring you up-to-date on what has happened since his funeral in Fredericton. The goal from the very beginning was to ensure Thom Joorden's funeral and family were looked with any assistance they required.
The next was to ensure the NATO Veterans Organization continues. As the Fredericton based Executive Vice President Harold Dibblee's Wife is not well, Harold decided that he did not want to continue in a National capacity. So, at the Vice President's formal request, and as the CEO of the National Veterans Organization - with the help of the National Secretary Treasurer Ron Gourlay and many others including Thom's wife and Son "the Thom office" - files /inventory and account - were moved to Ottawa.
We have just about finished the inventory of boxes of files and material and are in a position to receive dues and process New applications in the transferred of NATO Veterans Org account's to Ottawa. The interim Secretary Treasurer Cal Bellamy will be coordinating along with other interim officers, as per attachment. Ron Gourlay who was Thom's right hand man, has also agreed stay on to help for the interim period.
The NATO Veterans Organization will continue. If anything this is a turning point to make the NATO Vet Org bigger and better - with your help and patience we can do that. Everything will be AS IT SHOULD BE. Of course items such as outstanding orders for QM items, revamp of our web page , next AGM , formal elections- they will all come in proper sequence..
- the game plan for the future - the step by step - is being worked on
- the Constitution and By -Laws are being updated -
- so is the www.natoveterans.org web page
- a "State of the Nation " call to the acting NATO Vet Org Executive will ne held mid Jan to proceed quickly from temporary to a permanency for the Exec and the ongoing business of NATO Veterans Organization
- more emphasis will be on regional members on the Exec and more delegation to provincial district coordinators This letter is to assure you that the Interim Team will do everything they possibly can do to ensure the orderly transition from Fredericton to Ottawa. The involvement of the regions in this new organization is essential if we are to be a National Organization
