Veterans
In my last November Report I went over the year past. It has been an amazing year –just amazing. Our formal Industry Canada formal Incorporation arrived this week – Veterans Affairs Policy Office Charlottetown PEI Policy Office called also and wants NATO Vets to be on their consultation committees – plural - this is the departmental side. We are already on the Minister’s VA Office List and “Committee of 7”
Our aim next year –is to be recognized as the Voice of the Modern Day Veteran- based on certain principles
We are distinct from the traditional veteran main line established veteran organizations (these vet orgs primarily WW2 and Korea)and “era” stovepipe vet organizations -(the latter a group for one period - or one “element” (ex Army) or “specialty” group (Engineers). We are all veterans from Korea on to current day.
NATO Vets are Canadian veterans only – and no associate members
NATO Vets are their own spokesmen – no one speaks for NATO vets except us – we will support others – but only if we are consulted first and agree within the Organization.
We must now look to next year.
We have established ourselves in a position – next year -2011 will be “the year that tells“ -if we are to be the Voice of Modern Day Veteran -i.e. -post Korean War to present day veteran.
With this challenge in mind I have set up a Governance Working Group to map out a blueprint for us for 20011 based on aim and principles mentioned above, – strategy, policies, and procedures -with their first report to be considered by NATO Vet Exec at our January 2011 planning meeting 22 Jan 2011. Our Senior Advisor Jarrot “Jerry” Holzhaeur is heading this Working Group with Directors at Large Scott Fuller /Bob Grant/Gary Rice.
So we have put “our stake in the ground” – in 2011 we must build and construct. Thank you everyone – we as a Team would have not had the year without you in all sincerity. Your commitment and enthusiasm for the need for a modern vet association is contagious – and that is why we will grow
I am off to Cuba now for two weeks of R and R – Merry Christmas to you all. And thank you for a great year
