NVOC Status Report -for July 2014

Fellow Veterans
Sun Tzu once wrote “Rouse him, and learn the principle of his activity or inactivity. Force him to reveal himself, so as to find out his vulnerable spots”. As it was then, it is also now.
Over the past few months we have been anxiously awaiting to see progress on the multitude of important recommendations contained in the report of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, in addition to those contained in the VAC Ombudsman reports. These various reports clearly articulate the need for 'change' and the need for this 'change' to be significant and meaningful so as to address the serious shortcomings in programs and policies which are negatively impacting Canada's Veterans.
The NATO Veterans Organization of Canada, in which your voice is important, was at the table representing our collective position and are now awaiting to see what will happen to these recommendations. We are not interested in speaking just to hear our own voices, but on the contrary, are placing directly at the feet of the Government the fact that change is much needed and long overdue. To put it in the analogy of a tennis match...the ball is clearly in the Governments court and we continue to insist that the necessary funding to implement these recommendations be forthcoming. If funding is not forthcoming, then it is a clear and resounding rejection of the needs of we, the Veterans of Canada.
The 'voice' of Veterans is loud. Some groups do us a great disservice in how they carry the "Veterans" message. We, the NATO Veterans Organization of Canada, pride ourselves in the well thought out and researched positions that we communicate to the Government and our partner stakeholders and the public of Canada.
It is clearly now the time for action by the Government - a Government whose mandate is fast reaching an end and an election will be upon us in 2015. The clock is ticking and the NVOC will continue to 'rouse' our elected officials and let them reveal themselves though their actions and also through their inactions, ultimately to hold them accountable.
Your voice is being heard. Now it's time for the Government to put our taxpayers money where it is most needed and can have a real impact in the lives of Canada's Veterans.
