Presidents November 2010 Status Report
Vol 2 Issue 11 - November 1, 2010
Veterans:
Next month will marks the first year after the untimely death of Thom Joordens for the NATO Veterans Organization of Canada. The year 2010 – almost finished –has been spent with all our hearts and effort to ensure NATO Vet Org “did not finish in a room in Fredericton NB” - through the 14 hour day of one individual Thom Joordens.
We collectively said “no” – we transferred to Ottawa – we reassembled, reorganized – not missing a beat! Thanks to a lot of people – not only Ottawa Team but a coast to coast team:
- transferred from Fredericton to Ottawa - this was Phase 1
- established the framework of a national veterans organization structure
- Incorporated - wrote by-laws
- at same time became more recognixed and respected (been accepted as one of the “Big 6” - now “Big 7” of veterans organizations in Canada - this was Phase 2
- enlarged our membership base so we are 1000 aiming for ealy 2011 of 2000 by a recruiting campaign - Phase 3
- set up the nucleus of an advocacy group to start next year composed of not only well known names but a nucleus for the “best in Canada” veterans advocacy group and campaign - not ruled or directed by anyone else but ourselves – NATO Vets Org of Canada to decide – Phase 4
This amazing year of growing from a “Mom and Pop” organization to a nationally recognized veteran’s organization in Canada has not been easy on you -on the Ottawa Team –or me.
My first year as 2010 President has had one goal – to continue and grow NATO Vet Organization of Canada. With your help we did!!
We were put in a position of “fighting now the battle” - without the troops or Units in place!1 and this has come at a price.
Phase 5 will be held in mid January to plan the Consolidation phase by the Exec. New faces added at HQ and regions to exiting close Team – top to bottom – for next year’s big push. Next year is an open question – yes, changes to the Exec team are inevitable- yes, at all levels. But we survived. And we grew . And we became one of the Big Six of vet organizations in Canada - not bad for from 8 boxes delivered from Fredericton to an Ottawa bus station a year ago -to a Canadian “Coast to Coast to Coast” Team of the only veteran organization that is growing in Canada!
Thank you all.
