Presidents Announcement

Posted December 10, 2010

Greeting Veterans

Minister VA Office The Honorable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of (Agriculture) tabled changes to the New Veterans Charter Act. ( attached the background and the News Release) NATO Veterans Organization of Canada was asked, as were other veterans groups, to give a suggested by them statement following the announcement. We had not seen the statement to be issued. NATO Vets declined as we were not aware of what exactly was to be announced. There is a fine line between supporting the Minister VA -or DND for that matter- AND becoming part of the political process. Consultation by the Ministers Office is quite another thing

NATO Vets welcome being asked and we will become more active in advocacy on issues! NATO Veterans Organization of Canada feels that as a all veteran organization we need to be consulted first on such important changes such as The New Veterans Charter before we make any sort of NATO Vet commitment on your behalf.

We are going forward - the traditional veterans are well represented by respected veterans groups - the modern day are not! We are it!

We want to provide a proper response on your behalf,
and work towards our goal of NATO Vets to become
The Voice of the Post Korean War and the Modern day Veterans.

Regards

Gord Jenkins
President
NATO Veterans Organization of Canada
