Veterans
We are into the third phase the organization of the NATO Veterans Organization of Canada. NATO Vets is progressing – March was “one on one meeting” with Minister/ a VAC interesting /Stakeholder Meeting/ a trip to Rideau Hall to receive Queens Jubilee Medal on behalf of NATO Vets and an appearance at House of Commons Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs. All this information has been sent to you separately. We have moved from the survival year- to “organize “year – to entering the Canadian veteran’s organization scene as an accepted peer member. NATO Vets Exec has taken the step by step approach, non confrontational, all veteran membership, work within” the process”,& not become complacent.
The emphasis is shifting to increasing our membership base –in a word “recruiting” nationally. This three person Recruiting Working Group will be under the VP Regions- under who is "under discusssion" - we really need a full Director in there. Recruiting is coupled with “why join NATO Vets anyway?”- means we have to be seen and heard on advocating for NATO Veterans. The Advocate Working Group – again three people – will be under the VP Advocacy Tud Kaulbach – Bob Grant has already agreed to move there.We will be setting up two Working Groups to address these two areas. The entire NATO Exec is meeting now monthly to work our “where we go from here” -coordinated by Jarrott Holzhaeur.
We are on our own now – we don’t have any other veterans group as our spokesperson- we don’t always agree with our peers – but we have the same helping veterans as our overall purpose.
