Gord Jenkins National President of the NATO Veterans of Canada (NVOC) is pleased to announce that Thurston (Tud) Kaulbach is being welcomed to the position of Advocate. In this position Tud will have no end of choices on which to be an Advocate for Veterans and their families. The Executive and members of NVOC will back him all the way. Tud was born and raised in Bridgetown Nova Scotia. He joined the West Nova Scotia Regiment in 1952, which was the start of a military career spanning almost 40 years. He was commissioned in 1958 and on graduation from Acadia University was posted to Second Battalion the Black Watch in Camp Gagetown, N.B in 1959. From 1962 to 1965 2RHC served in Werl, West Germany. Shortly after returning to Canada the Battalion was assigned to UN duties in Cyprus in1966.


Following attendance at the Army Staff College in Kingston in 1968 he returned to Germany and served with Headquarters 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (HQ 4CMBG), 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (2RCR) and was a charter member of 3 Mechanized Commando in Baden Soellingen. He returned to Base Gagetown in 1971 and served as Second in Command of 2RCR, Base Administrative Officer and Field Support Group Commander at the Combat Arms School.


In 1976 he was promoted to LCol and posted to Central Army Group Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany as Senior Canadian Liaison Officer and Commander of the Canadian Support Establishment. In 1979 he returned to Base Gagetown as Commanding Officer of Second Battalion The Royal Canadian Regiment.


In 1981 he was posted to National Defence Headquarters where he spent 5 years in The Chief of Land Doctrine and Operations Branch and a further 5 years in Chief of Review Service Branch. In 1982 he was awarded the OMM. He retired from the Canadian Forces in April 1992


He then took on the task as Executive Director of the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association, a position he held until May of 2000.


Tud and his wife Shirley currently reside in Ottawa, Ontario
